Ludmila Dobrotworsky-Kouzmin

1944 born, Ludmila Kanibolotskaya, on October 31, in Dresden, Germany.

1950 arrived in Australia with my mother, Nina Malashenko, and step-father, Nikolai Dobrotworsky. Settled in Melbourne.

1957-62 completed secondary education at University High School, Melbourne.

1961-63 attended summer art  courses at the  National Gallery of Victoria Art School. Tutors included Noel Counihan, Clifton Pugh, John Brack.

1963 matriculated and was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship.


1963-67 completed B.A (Hons), University of Melbourne,  majoring in Fine Arts and Russian Language and Literature. At same time attended evening art courses (life classes and painting techniques), Council of Adult Education, Melbourne.    

1968 awarded Commonwealth Post Graduate Award (a four year scholarship to write a Master's and         Doctoral theses in Russian language and literature).

Married Alexander Kouzmin.

1969 awarded Master of Arts, University of Melbourne.

1969-1971 worked on doctoral dissertation and did tutoring in Russian, University of Melbourne.  Continued to attend evening life classes, National Gallery of Victoria Art School, for which I was accepted on the basis of a submitted portfolio.

1972 son Anton born.

1973 moved to Canberra. Awarded University of Melbourne Research Grant. 

1975 daughter Marina born.  

1975 awarded Doctor of Philosophy degree for thesis: "The Russian Language in an Australian Environment". 

1977-87 taught Russian and did research in Russian linguistics at the Australian National University and the  Canberra College of Advanced Education (now Canberra University). Attended evening art classes at the Canberra School of Art.

1987-1993 worked within the Commonwealth Public Service (Trade Marks Office and Department of Education) in Canberra, and from 1993, in Sydney. Painted on weekends and holidays.

1995 took early retirement and started painting full time       

1995 exhibited in Sydney at Elizabeth Gallery, Newtown, showing work completed in past year. 

2000-2003 lived and painted in Buckinghamshire, UK. Exhibited in local gallery in Olney,

Settled in Murwillumbah, NSW.  Established studio and started exhibiting locally.
